Donovan Hand to Make CPBL Debut with Chinatrust Brothers

A new CPBL season means fresh faces around the league, and fans of the Chinatrust Brothers will get a glimpse of what they have tonight in new starting pitcher Donovan Hand.

The 29-year-old righty was originally a 14th-round pick of Milwaukee in 2007. He made his MLB debut with the Brewers in 2013, recording a 1-5 record with a 3.69 ERA in 68.1 innings. He also made one MLB appearance last season with Cincinnati, though he spent the majority of the season with AAA clubs in Nashville and Louisville.

Hand sports a variety of pitches, including a fastball, curveball, slider, sinker and change up, according to Baseball Cube. His average fastball was clocked at 86.77 MPH in 2015.

He faces a tough task in his debut against the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions, a team that pounded the Brothers 11-0 on Sunday.

Starting for the Lions will be young lefty Jiang Chen Yan. Jiang went 6-3 last year with a 4.07 ERA and a 78/43 K/BB in 104 innings.

Game time is 6:35 p.m. in Hualien.

UPDATE: Donovan Hand's CPBL debut will have to wait as tonight's game has been postponed due to rain.
