Heading into Wednesday night, the EDA Rhinos had just one win and a team ERA of 8.50. They needed a big performance from their pitching staff and starter Scott Richmond delivered, leading his team to an 8-1 win over the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions.

Making his CPBL debut, the 36-year-old Canadian cruised through five innings, giving up just two hits and one earned run. He also struck out eight, keeping the Lions hitters off balance by using a combination of fastball, slider and his trademark 12-to-6 curveball.

Relievers No. 48 Lai Hung Cheng, No. 96 Lin Yi Hao and No. 56 Huang Sheng Hsiung combined for four scoreless innings to finish off Richmond’s first win.

Offensively the Rhinos were powered by two key home runs, a two-run blast from former Boston Red Sox prospect and game MVP Lin Che Hsuan and a three-run shot from right fielder Chang Chien Ming.

The two teams will play again on Thursday night at Xinzhuang Stadium in New Taipei City.
