The Chinatrust Brothers were absolutely dominant this past weekend. They took all three games against the EDA Rhinos by a combined score of 32-6 and currently sit atop the CPBL standings with a 4-2 record. Over those three games, the Brothers starting pitchers were lights out. Between No. 98 Rudy Owens, No. 19 Cheng Kai Wen and No. 95 Cheng Chi Hung, the trio pitched 19.2 innings while allowing only 14 hits and a single earned run. On Tuesday, newcomer No. 64 Robert Morey will get his first chance to contribute in his CPBL debut.
Originally drafted out of high school in the 29th round in 2007 by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Morey chose not to sign and instead attended the University of Virginia. Three years later, the Florida Marlins selected the 6’1’’ right-hander in the fifth round.
Morey had a 27-32 record with a 4.63 ERA in his six-year minor league career and pitched as high as Triple-A. He was released by the New Orleans Zephyrs of the Pacific Coast League (AAA) on February 28 of this year and signed with the Chinatrust Brothers later that same day.
Joining fellow American pitchers No. 38 Donovan Hand and Owens, Morey will make his debut versus the Lamigo Monkeys at Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium. The Monkeys will counter with left-hander No. 17 Zheng Cheng Hao, who will also be making his first start of the year.
Game time is set for 6:35 with clear skies in the forecast and temperatures around 18 degrees celsius. The game can be streamed live at Lamigo TV
