Lin Chih Sheng’s historic streak has hit triple digits.
With an RBI single in the first inning this evening at Xinzhuang Stadium in New Taipei City, the Chinatrust Brothers second baseman reached base safely for the 100th consecutive game.
The streak spans two seasons and dates back to June 20, 2015, when he hit a three-run home run while playing for the Lamigo Monkeys to lead them to an 8-1 win over the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions. He would then reach base in each of his remaining 59 games, including playoffs, to close out the season.
Now with the Chinatrust Brothers, the reigning Chinese Professional Baseball League MVP has reached base in all 40 games he has played in so far this season, passing some pretty impressive names along the way.
Back in April, he broke the Asian professional on-base streak of 69 games, set by Ichiro Suzuki when he played with the Orix Blue Wave in Japan’s NPB. Then on May 6, Lin reached base for the 85th consecutive time, passing Ted Williams’ MLB mark of 84 set back in 1949.
The incredible on-base streak is just another milestone for the man that the locals call “Big Brother”. He is also the fastest player in league history to 1000 hits, the fastest to 100 home runs and has also been a CPBL Best Ten pick six times (no one else has been a Best Ten pick more than three times).
Lin is currently batting .405 with 13 home runs, 50 RBIs and five stolen bases in 40 games played.
