The Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions made infielder Su Chih Chieh the first overall pick of the 2016 Chinese Professional Baseball League draft on Monday afternoon.
Su is a 21-year-old who is currently training with the Chinese Taipei Under-23 national team. He stands 180 cm, weighs 88 kg and played his college ball at Chinese Culture University in Taipei. Su was also a part of the Under-21 national team that won gold at the Baseball World Cup in 2014.
With the second overall pick, the EDA Rhinos chose 18-year-old high school outfielder Shen Hao Wei. The Chinatrust Brothers followed with a high schooler of their own, 18-year-old pitcher Chen Hu. The Lamigo Monkeys rounded out the first round by choosing 21-year-old catcher Chang Min Shun, another member of both the U21 and U23 national teams.
In total, 36 players were selected: 16 pitchers, four catchers, 10 infielders and six outfielders. Both the Monkeys and Lions chose eight players, while the Brothers and Rhinos each selected 10.
