The Chinatrust Brothers have released Bruce Kern, ET Today reports.
After being brought over from the Atlantic League at the beginning of August, Kern made just two starts with the first team. He was forced to leave his first start after just 2.1 innings on Aug. 17 because of a blister. He then gave up nine hits and eight runs (six earned) over four innings in his second start against the Lamigo Monkeys on Aug. 25.
It's fair to wonder whether the blister impacted his most recent outing, but one thing is for certain: With just 6.1 innings of work, Kern did not get enough time in the CPBL to prove what he can do. Perhaps this is the reason the Brothers have invited Kern to spring training for next season.
Kern's departure makes way for Nick Additon to be promoted to the first team. With the import roster deadline of Aug. 31 just 4 days away, the Brothers are likely done making moves. They'll head to September and the postseason with Additon, Bryan Woodall and Nate Long.
He becomes the sixth Brothers import pitcher to be released this season, and 13th to leave the CPBL in 2016:
