Game Notes:
- How do you follow-up a seven-inning, 10-strikeout performance? You pitch eight innings and strike out 11 (he did walk one though). Guardians SP and game MVP Mike Loree showed off his K(ung)-Fu skills again with his second straight start notching double-digit strikeouts. After losing seven straight games to Lamigo, Loree is the major reason the Monkey(s) is finally off the Guardians' back. Loree scattered seven hits (six singles, one double) and was in control the entire night. He has not given up a run in his last 16 innings pitched.
- Monkeys SP Lin Hua-Ching went toe-to-toe with Loree, keeping the Guardians scoreless until two outs in the seventh inning. Lin’s first career win still eludes him despite pitching well enough to earn it (6.2 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K). The key knock was Guardians RF Chang Chien-Ming’s two-out RBI double.
- Guardians CF Lin Che Hsuan would provide all the insurance the Guardians would need with a two-run home run (after two failed bunt attempts) in the eighth inning.
- It is noteworthy that Guardians called upon veteran RP Tsai Ming-Jin to close out the game (non-save situation). He needed only seven pitches to shut the door against the heart of the Monkeys lineup and is sporting a minuscule 0.55 ERA through 13 relief appearance. Tsai has eight career saves. With Richmond moving back into the starting rotation and previous closer Ni Fu-Te struggling, could Tsai emerge to stabilize the back-end of the bullpen?
