Game Notes:
  • Dominant was spelled L-I-A-O as the seven-year veteran pitcher of the Lions limited the Brothers offense to two hits (single, double) while gifting them with 10 strikeouts. It’s the second time in Liao’s career that he has reached double-digit punchouts, the last time being August 6, 2014 against the Monkeys. It was three-up, three-down for the Brothers in all but two of Liao’s seven innings of work. He used a tidy 100 pitches on the night in what was easily one of the best starts of his career (second win this season).
  • Liao’s counterpart, Brothers SP Bryan Woodall, went eight innings giving up eight hits (two solo dingers), four earned runs, no walks, and nine strikeouts. The home runs are the first given up in the last 56 innings pitched by Woodall and he has not issued a free pass in the last 22! He is the leader in votes for the SP on the Red Team (voting ends June 7) and has pitched at least seven innings in eight consecutive starts. Tonight’s loss was his first since opening day when he gave up seven runs (five earned) to the Guardians.
  • Lions DH Su Chih-Chieh recorded two more hits tonight and has 11 in his last six games while also knocking in runs in all six of those games. He is hitting a cool .376 on the season. The young slugger’s average has not fallen below .312 since the second game of the season.
  • The supposed best hitter in the CPBL, Brothers DH Chiang Chih-Hsien, went 0-for-7 in today’s doubleheader with one walk and one run scored (last inning in the second game). He had a whopping 10 men on-base in those seven at-bats and has nothing to show for it (he did go 4-for-5 last night).
