Game Notes:

  • Monkeys DH Chu Yu-Hsien unloaded on a full-count fastball, sending it over the bleacher seats in right field and breaking the 6-6 tie in the top of the ninth. The Monkeys bats then went crazy, scoring six more times in the inning as the Brothers bullpen simply couldn't get anyone out. 
  • The Brothers held a 6-4 lead heading into the eighth but saw it quickly disappear as early-season closer Chen Hung-Wen gave up a two-run home run to Lan Yin-Lun. Chen was making his first appearance since May 25 as he was out with an injury.  
  • The Brothers bullpen combined to allow nine runs—eight earned— on eight hits and three walks...in just two innings of work. 
  • This game had the look of a pitcher's battle early on as Darin Downs and Orlando Roman were nearly perfect through three innings. That all changed in the fourth when the Monkeys scored four in the top of the inning and the Brothers answered with five in the bottom. 
  • The Monkeys have hit at least one home run in 10 straight games, tying the franchise record. The league record is 12. They also have gone yard 15 times over their past four games. 
  • The Monkeys lead the second-half series 1-0 and the season series 12-9.

    Was it a wrong move to have Chen Hung-wen took over from Orlando Roman? Personally, I felt it wasn't the right time to field Chen at that point of time and it proven with those consecutive balls he threw. But given the present pitching inconsistency, it left the Brothers coaches with little option :(

      Not sure how Chen will bounce back from this or even be allowed pitching with a lead.

      I do hope Chen has what it takes to bounce back, as this must be his biggest slump in his career now.

      I thought it would be a better option to rule himself out of the WBC back then to have a good rest and a proper spring training under the new coaching panel.

      Now isn't the time to rush him, what he need most is a proper rest both physically and mentally.

      Well, it hasn't gotten better for Chen. Lan Yin-lun destroyed him two games in a row. Having Chen Hung-wen out there earlier than the last inning probably isn't the best way to go.
