The Uni Lions Sign Pitcher Michael Nix

The Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions have signed pitcher Michael Nix, according to Mike Ashmore. The 34-year-old right-hander has been pitching for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League in 2017. He has a 9-5 record with a 2.24 ERA over 17 starts and 100.2 innings. He has struck out 75 and walked 35.

Nix, a former 2005 11th-round MLB draft pick of the Atlanta Braves, worked his way through their minor league organization, reaching as high as Triple-A in 2008. The 6'5", 235 lb. hurler then moved to the Atlantic League in 2009. While there, Nix signed minor league contracts with the Chicago White Sox in 2013 and the San Diego Padres in 2014. The well-traveled Alabama-born pitcher has pitched professionally for 13 seasons, amassing a 92-56 record to go along with a 3.79 ERA and a 1.405 WHIP. Currently, Nix leads the Atalntic League in wins (9) and ERA (2.24).

Nix becomes the fourth import on the Lions team, joining Bruce Billings, Alfredo Figaro, and Terance Marin. The Lions will have to make a corresponding move before Nix joins the first team as the rules allow for only three import players per first-team roster.
