Game Notes:
- For the fourth consecutive year, the Chinatrust Brothers are back in the Taiwan Series! In a marathon of a game, the Brothers outlasted the Uni Lions 11-7, thereby winning the Playoff Series three games to one.
- The night was capped by fireworks but both teams brought the thunder from the outset. Lions DH Pan Wu-Hsiung started things off in the first inning with a solo homerun to right, giving his team an early, albeit temporary, lead. The Brothers would respond with five runs of their own in the bottom of the first, the key knocks being a two-run double by CF Chang Chih-Hao and a three-run no-doubter off the bat of C Lin Ming-Chieh.
- Not to be deterred, the Lions would storm back with three runs in the third inning, capped by Pan’s second homer of the evening off Brothers SP Rick Teasley, this time a two-run shot, bringing the Lions back to within one run. Pan would end his season in style, going three-for-five with two runs scored and three RBI.
- Just as the Lions were gaining back the wind in their sails, the Brothers would punch back with one run in the third and add another five-spot in the fourth. They would send 10 men to the plate with the crushing blow coming from game MVP Chang Chih-Hao, a three-run tater to right-center on a swing with some serious upper-cut. Chang would conclude the series leading his team offensively with a .643 average, five runs scored, and eight RBI’s in four games played.
- Things would remain relatively quiet until the Lions decided to mount their comeback attempt in the top of the ninth, proving once again, the last three outs are the hardest to get. Aided by two errors, the Lions would bring across two runs and would threaten for more with men on first and second with one out. Newly appointed closer, Wang Hung-Cheng would then buckle down and strikeout Lions 2B Chen Yung-Chi and RF Liu Fu-Hao, both looking, to jump start the celebration.
- Brother SP Rick Teasley would pick up his first CPBL career win with his effort tonight. Teasley would be the beneficiary of lots of offense after going five innings, allowing six hits, five earned runs, two walks, and five strikeouts.
- For the second consecutive night, the Brothers bullpen, which was problematic all year long, delivered four shutout innings to seal the deal. The players play the game but the series MVP for me is Brothers Manager Cory Snyder and his coaching staff. In four short days, they have rendered their previous roster controversy an afterthought and are now preparing for a championship date with the Lamigo Monkeys. Snyder has rallied the troops and made all the right moves, instilling confidence in his players, putting them in a position to be successful, and best of all, watching them mature and win on center stage.
- But will it be enough? The Lamigo Monkeys await, complete with firepower up and down the lineup and their Big Three (SP's Zack Segovia, Zeke Spruill, and Darin Downs) rested and raring to go on the mound. For now, congratulations to the Brothers! They have four days to rest and prepare before the showdown begins on Saturday, October 28 in Taoyuan.
