Chinatrust Brothers Sign LHP Nick Additon and Commit to RHP Mitch Lively

Update: The original article and headline stated that Mitch Lively was in fact signed, however the language in the reporting suggests that both sides have agreed to terms but haven't officially signed.  

The Chinatrust Brothers have agreed to terms with two of their three foreign-born players for the 2018 season: verbally comitting to 32-year-old RHP Mitch Lively and signing former Brother LHP Nick Additon according to multiple Taiwanese news outlets and UDN.

The massive righty, Lively, (6’5” 230lb, 196cm 113kg) is coming off an impressive 2017 with the Bravos de Leon of the Mexican League where he finished 7-2 with a 2.41 ERA over 21 appearances (12 starts). He tied for the team lead in strikeouts (60) and finished third on the club in innings pitched (74.2). He then went on to pitch in the Mexican winter league with Venados de Mazatlán of the Mexican Pacific League. He led the league in wins (9) and was second in ERA (2.53) and strikeouts (63).

This will be the the second stint in Asia for the former 2007 16th-round pick of the Colorado Rockies as Lively pitched for the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters of the Japanese professional league in 2015. He tossed 18.2 innings out of the bullpen and struck out 22 with a 5.30 ERA.

The California-born Lively sits around 93 mph (150 kph) with his fastball.

After getting sold from the Chinatrust Brothers to the Lotte Giants of the Korean Baseball League back in early 2017, the familiar Nick Additon went 2-7 with a 5.91 ERA across 13 starts for the Giants before being released in July. This year will be the third year of service with the Brothers organization as the lefty holds a 3-2 record with a 4.64 ERA over eight appearances (seven starts) since 2016.

Here is the 30-year-old Additon pitching in G6 of the 2016 Taiwan Series (7 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K).

The Brothers still have one foreign-born position to fill with fans holding their breath that it will be 2017 All-Star RHP Bryan Woodall. Many rumors have the Fubon Guardians in the mix for the services of the CPBL veteran, Woodall. These two moves could be a leverage move by the Brothers to force Woodall's hand or it could also be that the organisation feels they won't be able to land Woodall and have moved on. Stay tuned.
