Lamigo Monkeys Sign Former Uni Lion RHP Michael Nix

The Lamigo Monkeys have reportedly agreed to terms with RHP Michael Nix to begin the 2018 season, according to a report from the Liberty Times News. Nix will be sporting a new name (尼克斯 pronounced Nee Ke Suh), a change from 麥克爾 (My Ke Er) which he used last year with the Uni Lions.

The 6’5” (196 cm) 34-year-old pitcher finished the 2017 season with the Lions; sporting a 2-5 record with a 5.46 ERA (91.89 ERA+) over 10 appearance (nine starts). Although his H/9 and HR/9 were near league averages, his K/BB ratio of 3.50 was third best in the CPBL (min. 50 IP) behind Mike Loree and Bryan Woodall in part to Nix's ability to strikeout nearly a batter per inning.

Nix is now the third foreign-born player to recently leave the Uni Lions in the off-season for the greener pastures of the Lamigo Monkeys. Both Darin Downs and Zack Segovia started their CPBL careers with Uni Lions, signing late in their respected years (2016 and 2015) only to sign with the Taoyuan-based Monkeys the following season. The moves made immediate contributions to the Monkeys as Segovia and Downs have made 58 starts over the last two seasons going 29-9 in the process.

The signing of Nix would leave one available import roster spot if LHP Darin Downs has indeed signed as reported by multiple outlets.
